The United Nation Pageants System

Mayumi Cole
unpageants2167002.gif unpageants2167001.jpg
Not only is Mayumi very excited to be here to take part in this prestigious pageant but she is also very happy to be home! She is originally from Okinawa, Japan, but she calls Utah her home after her Air Force dad moved the family to Hill Air Force base in the 80s and she went on to obtain a degree in Spanish from Weber State University in Ogden. Upon graduation she was commissioned in the United States Army Signal Corps which began her life long career as an Army officer.

While in college she was very active in intramural sports (was named the most outstanding senior athlete), Campus Activities Board, Campus Crusade for Christ, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, captain of the women’s rifle team, member of the Homecoming Court, and was a point guard for the Hill Air Force base women’s basketball team. Mayumi transferred to Marymount College of Salina, Kansas to try college level basketball in her sophomore year but returned to Weber State to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain and to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature. She has competed in Miss Utah America preliminary pageants but never was a bride and always ended up a bride’s maid so she put pageantry to rest and traded her pageant shoes for combat boots.

Mayumi met and married her future husband Tom during signal officer basic course at Fort Gordon, GA. They knew each other only two months when they married and they have been married over 26 years and are proud parents of four grown children. The youngest just left for college. Her husband is currently stationed in Seoul, Korea and Mayumi will soon join him.

Aside from a degree in Spanish, Mayumi also has a master’s degree in Human Resources Development from Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. She also completed a two-year seminary program from the Ogden Institute of Religion the same year she received her bachelor’s degree.

She re-entered the pageant world seven years ago and captured such titles as Mrs. Global Woman, Ms. World Ambassador, Ms. World Elite, and Mrs. District of Columbia International, thus allowing her to experience the thrill of having a tiara on her head in lieu of black Army beret for a change. She is a certified Miss America preliminary judge and has volunteered her time and with local, state and national level pageants.
